15 NYC Date Spots

NYC date spots for any relationship

Dating in NYC is exhausting. It’s especially so with the endless amount of dating apps, options, and people unwilling to commit. Finding bae is hard. But, ya know what? Finding a NYC date spot doesn’t have to be. There’s an endless amount of things to do in NYC that range from free to lavish. Continue reading for 15 of my favorite date spots in NYC!

1. Prospect Park

Venture out to Prospect Park in Brooklyn with a blanket, a baguette, prosciutto, cheese, and a bottle of wine. The crowds are much more tame than in Central Park, and you’ll be able to watch in envy of all of the dog owners. Bonus points if you bring a kite.

Cost: Free

Prospect Park // Brooklyn, NY

2. Oyster Happy Hour at Mermaid Oyster Bar

My absolute favorite, favorite Happy Hour in the city is at Mermaid Oyster Bar. There are multiple locations, but the one in Greenwich Village is intimate. Happy Hour is every day, but I suggest going on a Monday since it’s ALL NIGHT LONG. Skip the entrees since the appetizers are all you need. Certain cocktails, wine, and beer are also included in Happy Hour.

Cost: $$-$$$

Mermaid Oyster Bar // 79 MacDougal Street

3. Queens Night Market

Tired of the hype behind Smorgasburg? Head to Queens Night Market instead, which features independent vendors that sell art, merchandise, and food focused on the heritage of NYC and Queens. The open-air market is open every Saturday night from 6pm to Midnight in the summer. Most food options like a crawfish bucket and pork buns are only $5 each. A beer garden is also at the market.

Cost: $-$$

Queen’s Night Market // New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens

4. Yoga to the People II (YTTP2)

There’s something about dripping in sweat next to bae that really makes you that much closer. My favorite yoga studio in the city is Yoga to the People II, and offers a diverse range of classes. The best part is that classes are only $5!

Cost: $

Yoga to the People II // 297 Third Ave., 3rd Floor (There are other locations too)

5. Upstairs at The Kimberly Hotel

One of the first rooftop bars I visited in NYC is Upstairs at The Kimberly Hotel. Often overlooked for larger venues with views of the Empire State Building or One World Trade Center, this rooftop bar has the perfect view of the Chrysler Building. It also has an intimate vibe and the crowd is less intense than Meatpacking’s.

Cost: $$$

Upstairs // 145 East 50th Street, Penthouse Level

6. Totto Ramen

Totto Ramen knocks Ippudo out of the water. There. I said it. The flavors just don’t compare at all. Take bae to the original Totto Ramen, which makes its ramen slightly different than its other two NYC locations (yeah, they are killin’ it). Order the pork buns. Bae will fall instantly in love.

Cost: $$

Totto Ramen // 366 West 52nd Street

7. Upright Citizens Brigade

Have a night of laughs at the Upright Citizens Brigade’s ASSSSCAT 3000 show on Sunday nights. Line up at 8:15pm for free tickets to the 9:30pm improv show where comedians from Comedy Central and SNL make surprise appearances.

Cost: Free

Upright Citizens Brigade // 307 W. 26th Street

8. Bagels on the Square

Grab bagels and schmear at the severely underrated Bagels on the Square, which features TONS of cream cheese options, including tofu cream cheese for all of you lactards out there. Afterwards, people watch in Washington Square Park and listen to the piano man for a relaxing morning (or afternoon).

Cost: $

Bagels on the Square // 7 Carmine Street

9. Sleep No More

Some say distance makes the heart grow fonder… Spend three hours separated from bae in the most exhilarating interactive play based off of Macbeth. A requirement to participate in Sleep No More is to wear masks and not speak, which makes the atmosphere that much more mysterious. Don’t forget your sneaks since you’ll be running around after the actors!

Cost: $$$$

Sleep No More // 530 West 27th Street

10. The Elephant Bar at The NoMad Hotel

A hidden gem in NoMad is The Elephant Bar at The NoMad Hotel, which will make you feel like you’ve been transported to an older and more sophisticated world. The 24-foot long mahogany bar provides an intimate space for conversing with bae. Enjoy cocktails crafted by award winning-mixologist, Leo Robitschek. If you really feel like splurging, make dinner reservations at The NoMad Restaurant, which is supervised under Chef Daniel Humm, head chef of Eleven Madison Park.

Cost: $$$

The Elephant Bar // 1170 Broadway

11. Mural Hunting in NoLita

The murals in NYC are constantly changing, but that’s what makes it fun. Walk around NoLita for the most Instagram-worthy murals for an afternoon activity. Stop by Prince Street Pizza for the perfect square pizza.

Cost: Free

12. Laser Tag at Bowlmor

Get out all of your frustrations with bae during a game of laser tag (or two or three). You’ll feel like a kid again and get your cardio in. It’s a win-win. Afterwards, grab a lane and show off your bowling skills.

Cost: $

Laser Tag at Bowlmor // Chelsea Piers — Pier 60

13. Walk Along the High Line

As cliché as it sounds, take a walk along the High Line. It’s finally built out completely, so you’ll have a long walk to really get to know bae’s deepest secrets. There are food vendors along the way in case you get hungry or you can hop off the High Line for a bite to eat at Chelsea Market. Don’t forget about people watching!

Cost: Free – $

The High Line // Gansevoort & Washington to 34th Street and 11th Ave.

14. Cotenna

This small West Village Italian spot is a go-to date restaurant of mine. It’s not pretentious or obvious, and it keeps me coming back for more. Although tables are squeezed close together, the only person you’ll see is bae. Order plates to share and a bottle of wine for the table. Get the lamb chops.

Cost: $$$

Cotenna // 21 Bedford Street

15. Nitecap

End a night of eating, dancing or whatever at Nitecap. This cozy speakeasy has pages of cocktails to woo anyone. Keep on the lookout for a table since space is limited. Menus change every season.

Cost: $$-$$$

Nitecap // 120 Rivington Street, Downstairs
